Money Equals Power is a statement that explains the mindset of the “Powers that Be”. This theory is what shapes our politics, cultural trends, and even beliefs at times. Of course we know it takes more than just money to be powerful, but money has an unquestionable position at the top ranks of our society.

Coming from the streets of Chicago, we had to be savvy enough to survive whatever life threw our way. We know well the obstacles and moments in our lives when the idea that “Money Equals Power” became a reality. We’d like to hear from you and get your feedback on when you realized how true this statement is.

GP is as real as it gets—authentic, optimistic, brash, confident, passionate. Respectful of the street life that shaped him and resilient in his quest to remain far from its destructive forces, GP is dropping a brand of music that connects to the stark reality of the corners and speaks the language of ambitious success. The fearless rapper, who has opened for some of the hottest acts in hip hop including Trina, Twista, Juelz Santana, and Gorilla Zoe is gaining attention in 2011 after dropping the blazing hot street anthem “What’s Up” featuring Gorilla Zoe. GP is intent on making a permanent mark in hip hop.

Hailing from the hard knock habitat of Chicago’s far south side, GP—Garrett Powers— grew up talented, yet troubled. Enticed by the allure of the street life led by the reluctant influence of his older brother, GP made a series of misguided decisions that eventually led to a three and a half year stint in prison. While locked up, GP’s mind remained free and he tapped into a creative side penning nearly 400 songs proving that the pen is mightier than the “pen”. However, not more than 3 months after his release from prison GP’s escape from the harsh reality of the street was short lived. Tragedy struck as his older brother was brutally murdered in a botched arm robbery attempt and 18 months later his best friend was gunned down. These unfortunate events became the fuel to spark the fire in GP to get serious about his immense musical talent, but more importantly the direction of his life.

GP does not want your sympathy, he wants your satisfaction. With relentless drive and determination, he is no doubt sure to live up to his desire.

He thrives on the notion that his redemption is found in thousands rocking to his music and going hard after his goals. He has transformed tragedy into triumph and used his pain to power his pursuit of success. GP’s music blends his aggressive, yet playful Chicago swag with smart wordplay and relatable lyrical content.

Sonically, GP is collaborating with some of the sharpest, chart topping producers like Sonny Digital (Rick Ross, Soulja Boy, Wale, Yo Gotti, Plies, YC, Gorilla Zoe) who produced the smash hit, “Racks on Racks” and Blaze “The Champ” (Diddy, No ID, Day26, Yung Joc, Napalm, Crucial Conflict) to craft a versatile sound to reach mass appeal, but not lose its style. GP shape shifts sounds and styles from the positive and heartfelt, to tales of survival—”hustler music” as he calls it—filled with messages to motivate those trapped in “street situations”.

Rounding out 2011, GP is going full throttle to rock the industry with more singles and videos, including “Custom Made” the infectious, romantic record featuring Vessel and “Get Er Done” featuring Day26. Intense and focused, GP, who writes for other artists as well under his label, GP Muzik, is compiling a ferocious publishing catalog and teaming up with other artist sharing similar creative visions. Stopping at nothing less than worldwide success, GP lives by the tenets of longevity and remaining relevant by creating music that represents the attitude of the avenues and promote the promise of real lasting success.
